Who Is Jesus?
And why it changes everything.
Let’s talk about Jesus.
Not just the name we’ve heard in songs or prayers. Not just the historical figure or the one we celebrate on holidays. Let’s ask the real, deeper question:
Who is He—really?
Some say He was a wise teacher. Others call Him a prophet. But the Bible paints a bigger, more beautiful picture: Jesus is the Son of God who stepped into our broken world, lived without sin, and gave His life to bring us back into relationship with God.
If that’s true—and we believe it is—then it changes everything.
Was Jesus a Real Person?
Short answer: yes.
Jesus of Nazareth isn’t just part of the Bible; He’s in the history books too. Roman historians like Tacitus and Jewish scholars like Josephus wrote about Him. They confirm what Scripture says—that Jesus lived, taught, performed miracles, and was executed under Roman rule.
But the Bible doesn’t stop at the facts. It tells us why He came, what He did, and who He really is.
Who Does the Bible Say Jesus Is?
Let’s unpack a few core truths straight from Scripture:
1. Jesus Is the Son of God
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son...” — John 3:16
Jesus isn’t just a good guy with good advice. He’s God’s Son—sent into the world to save it.
2. Jesus Is God in Human Form
“The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.” — John 1:14
Jesus isn’t distant or detached. He entered into our mess. He became human, walked among us, and showed us exactly what God is like.
3. Jesus Is the Savior
“You are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.” — Matthew 1:21
His name literally means salvation. That’s the heart of who He is.
4. Jesus Is Sinless
“...tempted in every way, just as we are—yet He did not sin.” — Hebrews 4:15
Jesus lived a perfect life. No shortcuts. No slip-ups. That’s what qualified Him to stand in our place and carry the weight of our sin.
Wait—Did Jesus Ever Sin?
It’s a fair question. If He was human, could He have messed up?
Scripture is clear: Jesus was tempted, but He never gave in.
Matthew 4 shows us how He stood strong, even when Satan himself tried to pull Him down. And because He didn’t sin, He could do what none of us could—take our place.
“God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.” — 2 Corinthians 5:21
That’s the gospel.
Why Did Jesus Die?
Here’s the deal: Sin separates us from God. And no matter how hard we try, we can’t fix that gap on our own.
But Jesus could. And He did.
“He was pierced for our transgressions… the punishment that brought us peace was on Him.” — Isaiah 53:5
His death wasn’t an accident. It was love in action. Justice met mercy. And three days later, Jesus didn’t stay in the grave. He walked out.
“If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.” — 1 Corinthians 15:17
But He did rise. And because of that, we’re not stuck. We’re invited into new life.
